Do not use AVG for antivirus

 | July 4, 2008 7:39 AM

abstract virusPreviously I recommended AVG for a free antivirus program.  But now AVG is doing some slimy practices, AVG disguises fake traffic as IE6, and I would recommend against using it.

You might want to try Avast! Antivirus though I have not tried it myself.  I stopped using antivirus programs altogether, I found they either slowed down my computer or were a pain with all the frequent updates.

Or you could get a Mac.  But then there are other things you’ll have to consider. 🙂

Gosh, as a security guy, I have to say… please please please have some anti-virus package on your machine.

The world of hacking is scary … very scary. I have stories that would blow your mind as to how ruthless hackers have become.

I would also recommend that you also invest in a whole-disk encryption package as well. If your laptop walks off, or if you have a USB thumb drive walk off… could you afford that data to be lost?

Sorry to be selling FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt), but I assure you that the Uncertainty and Doubt aren’t all that uncertain, and that doubtful. The fear can be managed with proper tools.

Let me know if you’d like me to help.
